On Saturday 10 October 2026, the Haut-Lac International Bilingual SchoolTM campus in St-Légier turned into a working United Nations for the day. HLMUN 2026, our student-run Model United Nations conference, brought delegates together under this year’s theme: addressing emerging security threats in an increasingly unstable world.
Five committees took on five different briefs. COPUOS debated the weaponisation of outer space, DISEC the legitimacy of private military companies, UNODC the synthetic drug epidemic, the Security Council rising tensions in the Taiwan Strait, and WHO the limits of international health authority against state sovereignty. Students ran every part of it themselves, from chairing committees to drafting resolutions, under Secretary General Chrysi Pantazi and Deputy Secretaries General Harris Pantazis and Clara Rotaru.
Two guests brought real UN experience into the room. Rolando Gómez, Chief of Press and External Relations at the UN Information Service in Geneva, has spent nearly thirty years with the UN, including in peacekeeping missions and at the Human Rights Council. Aida Nejad Oertly, a human rights lawyer with the UN Human Rights Office in Geneva, has led investigations in Myanmar, China and Iran, and stayed on afterwards to take questions from delegates.
Running a conference like this takes more than strong arguments. Our MUN team planned the day, coordinated five committees at once, and kept a room full of delegates on schedule.
Thanks to MUN Director Vanessa Wilson, the Secretariat, and the visiting delegations from Aiglon College and Leysin American School who travelled to St-Légier for the day.
