From Graduation to Today

I graduated from Haut-Lac in 2010 and went to study Drama and Film at Liverpool John Moores University. To be completely honest, my choice in where to go to university was based on what city seemed like the most fun and because I had no idea what I wanted to do with my life, I picked things I enjoyed at school.

When I finished my degree I was clueless as to what I wanted to do, but having always loved sport I did a ski instructor course and spent a season teaching kids to ski. I loved it and it definitely sparked my passion for coaching. However, I realised that skiing itself was not my lifelong path and neither was coaching children, which led me to pursue my personal training qualification.

One unexpected advantage of having done the IB was being required to study science. I took Biology, which I would never have chosen otherwise, and it has become incredibly important in my career. I am genuinely grateful that the IB gave me foundations I would not have chosen at sixteen if I had been given full freedom.

When I decided to become a personal trainer, it raised quite a few eyebrows. Many people questioned whether it was a sustainable career. However, I have been working as a personal trainer since 2015 and in 2017 I opened my own gym with my now husband, Will. We have been growing that business ever since.

We expanded our gym into a bigger location and over time my focus naturally shifted toward women’s health as a whole. As I have gone through my own life changes and supported many long-term clients through theirs, I became deeply interested in how training, nutrition and recovery need to adapt across different stages of life. This led me to invest heavily in my education so I could better support women in a way that is both informed and practical.

Will and I welcomed our first son in April 2023. He is three now, and has been an absolute joy. We have just welcomed a little brother for him, which I am sure will bring a whole new set of challenges.

Having done no competitive sport science at university (and missing that side of sport), in February 2025 I took up competing in HYROX. I first competed as a mixed doubles team with my husband and then decided to challenge myself by racing solo in May 2025. I qualified for the World Championships, which took place in June this year. I am excited to return to competing at a high level.

Running your own business while raising a family teaches you a lot. I have learned that making time for yourself is not selfish and that following something you are genuinely passionate about, even when it does not look like a traditional or guaranteed career path, can grow into something meaningful and sustainable. I cannot say that I have found a perfect balance between work and family life, but I have learned that balance looks different at different stages. What matters most is continuing to show up, stay curious, and do the best you can with what you have.
