French Stream

ABOUT OURFrench Programme

As a Swiss international school, we feel every student should have the chance to learn in two languages. However, we know this may not be a priority for all secondary students. Some may decide to attend a top private international school, but still wish to focus on their studies in French so as to pursue higher education courses in Switzerland, France or other French-speaking countries. We therefore also offer predominantly French International Baccalaureate Middle Years (IBMYP) and Diploma (DP) programmes.

WHAT IS THE FRENCH STREAM?
  • Lower secondary students (11-15) study all academic subjects in French throughout the IB MYP programme, whilst keeping up their exposure to English in Art, Design and Sport.
  • Upper Secondary students (16-18), who choose to obtain a fully French IB Diploma, study French Language & Literature, History, Geography, Biology and Mathematics in French, and their language B in English. They will also complete their Extended Essay and the TOK course in French.

FOR WHOM IS IT?
  • Students aged 11-18 who arrive at Haut-Lac with little or no English.
  • Lower Secondary students who wish to enter a local public school at the end of MYP4 to do the Swiss High School Diploma.
  • Upper Secondary students who wish to complete their higher education studies in Switzerland or another French-speaking country.

WHY FRENCH?

French is the local language in the Canton of Vaud. It is therefore essential for our students to speak or develop their understanding of this language as they go about their daily lives in the region.

As a local international school, we want to prepare our students for higher education studies and/or careers in Switzerland and worldwide. And how better to do this than by immersing them in the local language and culture during stimulating, engaging lessons and trips to regional museums and landmarks.
