Our Graduates Before & After

ABOUT OURGraduates

Haut-Lac’s location and its highly diverse, international student body give students a wealth of opportunities to examine their own and other cultures in a global context. These experiences remain in the memories of our students as they move on to further education and into adult life.

higher educationcounselling

Our curriculum leader, form tutors and teachers work proactively with individual students and their parents from Lower Secondary through to Upper Secondary and after graduation to ensure they make informed choices for the future. Together, we map out the content and curriculum that suits your child’s needs, challenges them to do better, and sets them up for their next educational or professional steps.

Students are given the chance to meet and talk to representatives from universities around the world both at university fairs in the area and on our Roches Grises campus to make them aware of the options available to them. In addition, our Higher Education Guidance Counsellor works closely with each of our DP2 students throughout the university application process to ensure all requirements and deadlines are met.

our graduatesat university

We are proud of the 500+ students who have completed their schooling with us.  All have achieved commendable results with regard to university acceptance and entry, and have been equally successful in a wide range of professions and postgraduate degrees.

As a non-selective IB World School, we give all students the chance to complete the IB Diploma Programme if they wish to do so and most take it on. Over the last four years, Haut-Lac graduates have obtained an average of 35 points (versus a world average of 33 points) out of a total 45 points in the IBDP.

And this year, our latest graduates kept up the trend. Congratulations to the Class of 2023 on:

  • achieving an average of 32.2 points in the IB Diploma (world average 30.2)
  • a record 43% of you obtaining the Bilingual IB Diploma
  • securing a 100% pass rate in our first IB Career-Related Programme exam session

With 43% scoring 32 points or higher, 23% scoring 36 points or higher and 10% scoring 40 points or higher, we are proud to see them take up places at excellent universities and colleges in Switzerland, the UK, Europe, North America and Australia.

Like their older peers, their determination to succeed goes beyond the IB. They will stop at nothing to get to whether they want to go, making it onto under- and postgraduate courses at Russell Group, Ivy League and Oxbridge universities, among others, every year.

INTERNATIONAL SCHOOLGRADUATE PROFILES

Nadim Sherif

After 13 years spent at Haut-Lac, I graduated the IB, and went on to pursue a Bachelors in Business Administration at Lancaster University and ICADE Madrid.

Since then, I’ve been a Co-founding Partner at Kognity, one of Sweden’s fastest growing EdTech companies, set to radically improve learning for the 1.5 billion school students.

Since our launch in 2014, we’ve worked with +20% of IB schools globally, and supported over 200’000 IB, IGCSE and GCSE students in 100 countries around the world.

My time at Haut-Lac and studying the IB has not only shaped my passion for learning, but also provided me with the tools required to be a young entrepreneur.

Alex Fairweather

I attended Haut-Lac for most of my primary and secondary educational years (from 5 to 18 years) and graduated in 2009. Upon completing my university studies and a yearlong placement with the Hilton Hotel Group, I had a change of heart and decided to pursue a career outside of the Hospitality industry.

With the support of my University, I applied for a wide range of roles and found myself working for Duff & Phelps, a global financial advisory firm who encouraged me to pursue a career in finance. After 3 and half years of balancing full-time employment and studies, I am now a chartered accountant with full membership to the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA).

The IB encourages students to be ‘risk takers’, and I believe that studying the IB at Haut-Lac gave me the right platform and ability to take the risk to try something new!

After graduating from Haut-Lac in 2007, I went on to study at the École Hôtelière de Lausanne and finally to work in Events Management for Montreux Casino, Swiss International Airlines and a non-profit association. Since 2016, I have been working in the Congress and Events department of the European Respiratory Society. We organise about 60 events all over Europe, including the annual congress which welcomes approximately 22’000 people in a different city every year.

Haut-Lac enabled me to grow up in an international environment, which prepared me for the environment I would find at EHL and at my current work place. Being surrounded by people from many countries helped me to be open-minded, curious about other cultures and flexible when working with different nationalities, which is key in my every day work.

AboutOther Avenues

Whilst most of our graduates go straight into higher education, some head straight into professional life such as our Class of 2010 graduate, Isabelle Buchbinder, who went into the world of start-ups. Others have also taken gap years to complete their Swiss military service such as Class of 2015 graduate Alexis Piralli, or to follow their passion like Class of 2012 graduate Jessica Grange, who let her love for animals take her from working on ranches in Latin America to becoming a professional pet photographer in the UK.
