Our school holiday dates do not consistently correspond to those observed by the public schools in the canton of Vaud.
The dates of various activities, as well as staff workshop days and parent / teachermeetings on which the school is closed to students, can be found on www.haut-lac.net.
The school management reserves the right to modify the dates of events in the interests of the school’s programme.
The TEDxHautLacSchool team is proud to inform you that tickets for this unique event will be made available on Tuesday 1 May.
TEDx events are local, self-organised events that bring people together to share TED-like experiences. TEDx events are licensed by TED, and follow a certain number of guidelines which make each TEDx event prestigious and unique. The theme we have chosen for the first ever TEDxHautLacSchool conference is 2084: Knowledge is strength. Inspired by George Orwell’s 1984, speakers will share how they perceive the future of their areas of expertise, and how we can all contribute to the creation of a utopian future. Our conference aims to allow these experts to discuss issues of vital importance and share ideas that have the power to revolutionise society in order to motivate the senior students and adults in the school’s community to act upon these issues. Some of the topics which will be discussed at the event are:
- John Andrews will speak about the evolution of warfare and likely conflicts in the coming decades.
- Edward Girardet will discuss the need for a return to quality journalism to combat disinformation and ‘fake news’
- Laura Penn will talk about the importance of human interaction in the age of social media.
- Philippe Morel will relate major advances in the evolution of surgical medicine, and will hypothesise on ones yet to come.
- Charles Foster will question the concept of identity and its essence in the coming decades.
- Goranka Tanackovic will explore the evolution of genetic medicine.
- Yosef Akhtman will examine how technology will help us feed an ever-growing human population.
The event will be hosted on 16 June 2018 at the Haut-Lac International Bilingual School’s Praz-Dagoud campus (Chemin de Pangires 26, 1806 Saint-Légier-La Chiésaz). Doors will open at 09:30, and the first speeches will begin at 10:15. Lunch will be available for purchase on-site, with The Rolling Chefs (http://www.therollingchefs.ch) and El Gringo (https://elgringoswiss.ch/en) food trucks. Archie’s Coffee on Wheels (http://www.archiecoffee.com) and roaster Fabio Marco (https://fabiomarcocoffee.com) will also be present throughout the day to provide you with excellent locally-roasted coffee. The event will end at around 17:30, with some yet-to-be-announced workshops hosted by our speakers.
The link to the sign-up form will be posted on our Facebook page at 12:00 on Tuesday 1 May. Three tickets may be purchased per form, as the size of our audience will be limited. People who attempt to buy more than three tickets are at risk of receiving none. Once the form is filled in, please pay the correct amount in cash within seven working days via Kate at the Roches Grises secretariat, who will tick your name off on a list to confirm your purchase of tickets to TEDxHautLacSchool. If you are unable to pay for your tickets within the allotted time, please notify us and we will act on a case-by-case basis. If you fail to notify us and pay for the tickets in due time, your submission will be forgotten and you will have to restart the entire process, with no guarantee of availability. All requests will be treated on first come first served basis, so remember there is no guarantee that you will have tickets to the event until the due payment has been properly received.
