We structure the curriculum to inspire, motivate and challenge students by linking learning to the world around them. The curriculum is structured around major areas of knowledge.
All subjects are taught through holistic themes that allow students to explore various aspects of a topic just as they would in normal life. Please see below for examples of themes that might be used in P3 classes.
Subjects taught discretely are physical education, maths, and the more technical aspects of the English and French language programmes.
When the school day is over, children may stay at school to participate in a host of extra-curricular activities with their friends, or to do their homework. After club pick-up time is 5pm.
Children availing of the twilight service should be picked up by 6pm at the latest.
Examples of themes used in P3
The “From Out of the Shadows” theme builds on previously taught concepts about light and sound. It also offers an in-depth look at all things electrical, including circuits, conductors, and insulators. The slightly spooky title is designed to stimulate creative writing assignments linked to mystery and adventure.
“Rocky the Findosaur” is a theme based on our original dinosaur character, Rocky. Although it focuses mainly on rocks and fossils, the theme also looks into solids, liquids, and gases. The dinosaur link enables pupils to not only engage with fossils in a fun way, but also to link and build on learning from the previously explored history theme “Ug!”
